Volunteering & Involvement

 

I believe civic engagement, volunteer services, and being involved are active building blocks in life. Placing yourself as an active role in world is a valuable resource of experience and inspiration.

Ronald McDonald House Santa Fe College Honors Program Volunteer Chefs

 

The Ronald McDonald House Charity of Gainesville Florida provides opportunity to thousands of families who travel each year to ttake advantage of the medical expertise at UF Health Shand Childrends Hospital. The house assists families with seriously ill children that need residency during the process of medical treatment. 

 

In Fall '13 and Spring '14, I assisted with Santa Fe Honors Program charity spaghetti dinner for the Ronald McDonald House's families.

From the period of June '13 to January '14, I served as a volunteer art director once a week managing an arts & crafts station with intentions of creative therapy and human bonding for the families.

 

2013 Florida Water Legacy & Land Act Volunteer

 

Lake Okeechobee is my backyard in Clewiston, Florida. My hometown hosted an event conerning the pollution and deteroration of Florida's natural water sources, the Everglades, coral reefs, Lake Okeechobee, and coastal beaches. As a volunteer, I encouraged people to vote for the Florida Water and Legacy & Land Act to appear on the 2015 ballot. The Act will legally protect and restore Florida's natural environment.

 

2012-13 Santa Fe College Student Governement
 

From Fall 2012 to Spring 2013, I served on the Student Government Programming Committee as Community Events Director. As a Programming team, we created and hosted college community events that centered around educatining, promoting student involvement, and entertaining student life. 

 

 

 

2013 University of Florida Student Art Show

 

Connecting with other students lead me to the opportunity of having my photgraphy featured in a Student Art Show at Univeristy of Florida's Reid Hall. 

 

 

 

 

2013 MLK DAY; Group Reflection Leader

 

I volunteered as the Group Reflection Leader for Gainesville's Martin Luther King Day community service. Hosted by the University of Florida's Office of Civic Engagement & Services, I lead a group of 200+ UF students, Santa Fe students, and volunteer civilians about charachter strength and taking time to serve our environment.

 

2012 Santa Fe College World Humanities Expo

 

I presented my Honors American Humanities research project "The Yoruba Light in Gainesville" for the Santa Fe College World Humantiites Expo. This presentation introduced Yoruba, an African based culture that follows the religion "Ifa" in Gainesvile, Florida. Please check my academics page for more information on this research project!

 

2014 University of Florida's Harn Museum MUSE Volunteer

 

The MUSE program (Museum University Student Educators) at the University of Florida's Harn Museum. This spring semester I was one of fifteen students creating and presenting interactive experiences for museum visitors. On Museum event nights, we fulfill our purpose as MUSE's by engaging and involving our creative productions with museum visitors of the community in  to learn more about the current exhibits.

  
2014 Santa Fe College Waste Audit Day Student Art Facilitator

 

Santa Fe College Civic Engagement & Leadership hosted "Waste-Audit Day", a sustainable event focused on the issue of recycling and re-using. In this event, I was a volunteer facilitator of a creative station and student art show. The recycled art work students creatied during Waste Audit Day was submitted to the Santa Fe Student Life Art Gallery for display. This provided the hands-on experience on alternative ways waste can be recycled.

 

2013 World Travelers Organization
 

Five months prior to my Study abroad trip to Ukraine, I joined the Santa Fe College World Travelers Organization. My highest position held was Student Senator, representing the organization during Student Governments weekly senate meetings. Our mission as World Travelers was to develop an awareness of cultural and study abroad opportunities on our college campus, as well as prepare ourselves for our own travels ahead.

 

2013 Zephyrhill Magazine

 

My poem "New Way" was submitted and printed by Santa Fe College's Spring issue Zephyrhill Magazine. The magazine prints selected works such as poems, short stories, and photography. 

 

New Way- "I found to treat all objects as if they were porcelain.

And to interact with people as if I will never see them again."

 

2013 Valentines Day Repurpose Project

 

Santa Fe College Office of Civic Engagement field trip to The Repurpose Project in downtown Gainesville to make Valentines Day cards for residents of Haven Hospice Care Center

 

2013 MLK DAY; Group Site Leader
 

I also volunteered as a Group Site Leader  for a group of MLK day volunteers on the non-profit Haile Plantation Histoical site. My responsibilities included being a voice of service, location director, and time manager. Our energy went into mending the plantation's yard work. 

 

2012 Organic Gardners Organization
 
 

I joined the Organic Gardners Organization my second semester at Santa Fe College. It was student driven and served as a place for green thumbed student's to grow organic herbs and veggies. I served as the Organic Gardners student senator, representing the organization during Student Government's weekly senate Meetings.
